Jim Asplund
is a volunteer for UnionStation.org, the managing entity of this magnificent and beautiful station. He is recognized and well known in the metro area as the resident (almost) authority on the history of Union Station. Jim is a past President of the National Railroad Historical Society, Kansas City Chapter (having served many terms). He has been with NRHS since 1960.  Jim has been in and out of Union Station since he was 4 years old. His first train trip was in April, 75 years ago; a round trip to Seattle. Jim had an uncle who worked for the Santa Few railroad in Newton, Kansas, (our future connection of the Heartland Flyer and Southwest Chief) making an annual trip there from 1949 into the early 1960s. As a volunteer at Union Station, Jim has for many years given tours of the station.
